What is Meditation ?
It is the achievement of a relaxed state of mind while you are
fully conscious. Meditation is not done it happens.
Let me tell you we all meditate every night when we sleep.
Sleep is considered one of the best Meditation says the Dalai Lama, which effects the sub conscious and provides your neurological and physical systems a rest.
Now if we can achieve the Alpha state while fully conscious the effect on the entire physical, mental and hormonal system is much more profound.
In contrast rest in one hour of conscious meditation is equivalent to three hours of sleep rest. That is if you meditate for 3 hours during your sleeping time you would have 9 hours of sleep rest. You 6 hours additional to do do what ever you want. - may be meditate more !
In the act of meditation the auto immune system is activated and the body repairs it self. Biofeedback systems have been known in India and some other countries for millennia. Ancient practices like Yoga and Pranayama (Breathing techniques)are essentially biofeedback methods.
Meditation does not require too much training even if it does the benefits far outweigh the time spent learning.
Many people say they do not have time for meditation. Then if you say that there is $5 Million benefit if you meditate 15 mins twice a day for 4 weeks, they will find time.
Personally I meditate twice daily of 30 mins each. On weekends it could be 3 hour sessions. I have been doing this for 10 years. I have found my $5 Million benefits.!
Why Meditate ?
You have 60000 thoughts every day which you efficiently process and you strain your intellect with more worrisome thoughts. Most of these thoughts remain thoughts only, in a few cases inspired action was taken for it to manifest - all other thoughts were like weeds in a garden. You want to perceive the beauty of the garden not count the plants and the weeds.
Generally all physical afflictions are because of mental worries; and all mental worries are because the intellect is immature. With Meditation you find a calm state of mind which is removed from your mental worries. Now you can step back and acquire direct knowledge to dispel Ignorance , the root cause of all worries. You will learn this yourself if you are regular in your routine.
Meditation is a method of calming your mind to try to reach that mind of clear light and so you can change the way you process thoughts. The best state would be that you block all thoughts and think of yourself as part of the Universal Consciousness. How to Meditate ?
The body's electric and hormonal system best communicate with each part is in the sitting position.
All your energy centres or chakras are situated on your spine with receptors at the front and back of the body. That is the reason you sit erect with your chakra receptors not covered. Through the Chakras you will receive new energy on the inhale and expunge the energy you do not want on the exhale.
One of the easiest methods to help block thoughts and to achieve a meditative state is to hum on the inhale and hum on the exhale.
Can play some pleasant instrumental or meditation music - it will help
Close your eyes , while sitting erect with neck in line with the spine.
Make a sound while inhaling through your nose. 4 to 5 secs
Make a humming sound while exhaling through nose- 7 to 10 secs
Repeat this inhale and exhale for 15 mins
Open your eyes and take a big stretch. YOU are READY for what you have to offer this DAY.
You can increase the number of breaths or apportion a time 30 mins to this practice. Do it morning on waking up and before sleeping. You can also do it any other time if you want to quieten your mind. You also enhance the practice by introducing positive and pleasant affirmations in the empty mind.
Do not expect miracles, you will on daily basis get some benefit, collectively you will start seeing changes in your physiology in four weeks you will then say why did I not meditate earlier.
