Life Goals 101
The nutrition you put in your body is one of the most important factors when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. Nutritionists are constantly telling us how important nutrition is, but what does this actually mean?
The right nutrition for longevity and continued good health is what we are striving for.
If food is solely eaten because it tastes nice with no regard to whether it is good for your body is when could have heartburns, blood pressure, blood sugar, and a host of other disorders.
Nutrition can be defined as "the process by which an organism derives its food or energy." This means that nutrition isn't just about eating; it's also about absorbing and utilizing nutrients from the foods we eat. On top of that, digestion and elimination are both necessary for nutrition because they help break down food into usable substances.
Good nutrition doesn't only include things like vitamins and minerals; fiber, water, protein, carbohydrates, fats - all these things play a role in our health too. If you're not getting nutrition from your food, you might be dehydrated or lacking in some other essential nutrient.
Digestion is the process of breaking down our foods so that they can get absorbed by our bodies and utilized for energy. Digestion starts in your mouth when you chew - this mixes up saliva with the food to help break it apart into smaller pieces. After you swallow, it travels down your esophagus to reach the stomach where chemicals are added and enzymes break down the food even further.
Once foods have been broken up into their most basic molecules, they need to be absorbed by the body so that nutrition is available for energy or storage in our cells. Absorption happens in the small intestine where the nutrients are taken out of chime and sent to different parts of our body.
Nutrition is important for more than just energy; if nutrition isn't present, it can cause problems in some other areas too. For example, without minerals like calcium or magnesium, you might get osteoporosis while a deficiency in Vitamin A can cause blindness.
Foods can be classified into three distinct categories as described in the ancient Vedic scriptures
Sattvic - foods that are fresh, light, and nurturing of the mind. They provide nutrition to our nervous system which needs bright foods like nuts, fruits, grains, and vegetables.
Rajasic - foods that are spicy, salty, or pungent in taste cause heat within the body through metabolic processes. These meats and dairy products can be too much for the body to handle and must be balanced out with more cooling foods. These are dense foods and require more digestive process
Tamasic - heavy, stale, or overcooked foods cause an increase in sloth and dullness throughout the mind/body connection. Tamasic foods can include meat, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, etc…
There is a continuous process called Apoptosis that occurs in the body. Apoptosis is programmed cell death that allows for cells to die at a pre-determined time without being attacked by our immune system. This natural cycle of life and death contributes to overall health because it keeps everything running smoothly, allowing old cells to be recycled while new ones are created on top of them.
We are masters of our own galaxy of 35 trillion cells, all of which are constantly dying and being replaced. Every day 50 billion new cells are born and 50 billion cells die.
So nutrition is important, not just for energy and cell structure but also because it allows us to maintain our physical form by providing nourishment to all our cells by way of nutrient-rich oxygenated blood. We need exercise which detoxifies the organs and tissues to help with the overall apoptosis process.

f nutrition isn't present in your diet or if you can't effectively digest the food that you're eating, then your body's ability to function will be impaired which means less happiness for everyone involved!
Avoiding nutrition is to lack nutrition, which causes ill health and disorders (blood sugar, blood pressure, in the long run.
Nutrition becomes destroyed by harsh physical exercise which can cause problems over time because it strains your digestive system rather than strengthening it as gentle yoga does! This strain on the body comes from food not being able to properly digest.
So what is considered the right nutrition? It has to follow three filters.
Any food which is good for your body and provides nourishment. They should not be nutrient-dense as about 30% of nutrients are wasted due to incomplete digestion. Be a part of saving the planet's resources and the planet.
The food you chose has to be comfortably digested within 24 hours. Nutrient-dense foods can take up to 36 hours for digestion and elimination.
Now make it taste better. When you are hungry it will taste better.
It is suggested, in the scripture that one should have their food prepared in such a way that it can be easily digested. So it is Nuts, Grains, Fruits, and Vegetables
If one is diligent and careful in looking after your temple - your gift of life - you will live long and prosper.
So eat well, prosper and be healthy.
